He's never mentioned, but I remember Takahashi mentioned something about him dying in a car accident.

A car accident? That's a new one. Any idea where she said that?

I think it's a pity they never talk about him. I mean, they could at least remember him once a year or something.

It's also remarkable that Kagome is the one with only a mom, while all the others only ever mention their father (we hear a bit about Inu's mom in the movie, but Miroku, Sango and Shippo's mothers are completely left out - unless I missed something).

Kagome's father is mentioned in the second movie, if I recall. Her mother mentions him after Kagome gets sent back to our time. They are sitting on a bench or something and her mother said something about her father.

Of course, I could be wrong.

It's actually mentioned in a light novel written by Rumiko herself, the novel itself is only sold in Japan though and is in Japanese, of course. XD

to be honest most successful series only have one parent, or none, due to death, work, divorce, and other such things.

examples bleach - mother of ichigo died.
naruto - both parents died
almost every disney movie (excluding a few) one parent has died, or is inexplicably missing.

we covered this in a media class and the "official" theory is that with the divorce rate so high, plus family death thrown in and other such things, kids are more likely to relate with a character with only one parent. since the fortunate kids that dont experience any trauma from the loss of a parent, due to age, or there parents are still there, dont really notice or care. its supposed to be a form of subliminal message, to help children accept the show.

I would say it's definitely implied, although not explicitly stated in the manga or anime, that Kagome's father is deceased. I do think there's strangely very little mention of him, though. I would think that they would talk about him more than they do in reality.

In answer to someone else's question about InuYasha's father's name, I'm pretty sure his name is Inu No Taisho. He's also alternately referred to as The Great Dog Demon.

Inu No Taisho I don't believe is his name, after all Myoga called him that, Inu No Taisho means "Dog General" though so it's possible.

Inuyasha is Kagome's father.
Kagome is her own mother.
Her grandfather is Myoga.
And, her brother is Chippo.
Let's get even nuttier.
Inuyasha is actually his own father.
Kagome is his mother.
Because, with time travel, anything is possible.
